Ciudadela de Jaca
Esta fortificación, de planta pentagonal, fue construida a finales del siglo XVI (las obras se inician en 1592). Conserva todas y cada una de sus partes características: foso, baluartes, escarpas, cuarteles, polvorines, túneles… además de una hermosa entrada a la que se accede mediante un puente levadizo.
Su construcción fue encomendada a Tiburcio Spannocchi, ingeniero de origen italiano. Tiburcio estaba al servicio de Felipe II, dentro de un programa de defensa de la frontera aragonesa con Francia, cuyo punto principal sería precisamente el Castillo de San Pedro. Este eligió para la construcción del castillo unos terrenos extramuros, conocidos como Burnao.
