Citadel de Jaca
This fortification, with a pentagonal plan, was built at the end of the 16th century (the works began in 1592). It preserves each and every one of its characteristic parts: moat, bastions, escarpments, barracks, magazines, tunnels... as well as a beautiful entrance that is accessed by a drawbridge.
Its construction was entrusted to Tiburcio SpannocchiItalian engineer. Tiburcio was at the service of Felipe II, within a program to defend the Aragonese border with France, whose main point would be precisely the Castle of San Pedro. He chose for the construction of the castle some land outside the walls, known as Burnao.
